Determination of Migration Amounts of Terephthalic Acid and Isophthalic Acid in Drinking Water PET Packaging Bottlesby HPLC

Abstract:This article establishes an eficientand accurate high-performanceliquidchromatography(HPLC)analysis forthe simultaneous determinationof the specific migration amountsof terephthalicacid (TPA)and isophthalic acid (IPA)fromPETpackaging botles intodrinking water,andthedeterminationandanalysisofPETpackaging bottlesof 6diffrentbrands ofdrinking wateron the market.Theresults show thatTPAand IPA have good linearity inrangeof 0.5mg/L to 12.0mg/L ,the limit of detectionis O.2 mg/L,the spiked recoveries arebetween 92.2% and 104.5% ,and the relativestandard deviations are between 0.26% and 1.56% ( <5.0% ).Themethodis simple to operate,highlyaccurate, andreproducible,and is suitable for the rapid determinationof specific migrationamounts ofTPAand IPA in PET packaging botles,and providesareliable means forfoodsafetyriskassessment.Thetestresults showthatTPAand IPA are not detected in anyof the packaging botle samples,indicatingthatthe polymerization degreeof PETpackaging bottles fordrinking wateron the marketis high,and therisksof monomerresidueand migration arecontrollable.
