Abstract: Objective: Through the investigation and analysis of an outbreak of foodborne diseases caused by accidental ingestionof Gelsemium elegans, itprovides inspiration for handlingand preventing similar incidents. Method:Field epidemiological investigation was conducted, case search and individual case investigation were carried out tocollect information on the onset of the disease, the number of exposed meals andthe production process of suspicious foods.Field hygiene investigation was conducted to trace the source of raw materials, and relevant samples were collected.Laboratory tests were carried out using gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Result: A total of 5 cases were investigated in this survey (with an incidence rate of 100% ). The main clinical manifestations were dizziness ( 100%) ,blurred vision (80%) ,and diarrhea (40%) .The onset time epidemic curve indicated a point source exposure pattern, and the average incubation period was 2h .The incubation period was negatively correlated with the intake of five-fingered peach soup (Pearson test, r=-1.000 , P<0.05 .Gelsemine and gelseminine were detected in the remaining five-fingered peach soup residue. Conclusion: This incident was an outbreak of foodborne disease caused by the accidental consumption of five-fingered peach soup containing Gelsemium elegans. The meal and food that caused the disease were the five-fingered peach soup eaten for dinner on October 7th,2O23,and the pathogenic factors were gelsemine and gelseminine.Itissuggested to strengthen the research on rapid detection methods for Gelsemium alkaloids, enhance the public's basic understanding of toxic plants, and popularize the knowledge of emergency handling after accidentally ingesting toxic plants.
