Innovative Application and Practice of Open-Source Tools in Digital System Education

A Case Study of Icarus Verilog and cocotb

AbstractThe article focuses on two typical tools，Icarus Verilog and cocotb，and proposes ateaching plan basedonopen sourcetoolchains，systematicallyanalyzing theefectiveness oftherefom.Throughtheappicationofbasiccases，sequential logic cases，and simple CPU projects，the advantages of open source tools in reducing students' learning barriers， strengthening students'verificationawarenes，andpromotingthecultivationofstudents'interdisciplinaryabilitieshavebeen verified.Strategies for integrating opensource tools into teaching have alsobeensummarized，providingreference for the continuous optimization of digital system courses and the cultivation of students' engineering abilities.
