Innovative Application and Practice of Open-Source Tools in Digital System Education

A Case Study of Icarus Verilog and cocotb

AbstractThe article focuses on two typical tools,Icarus Verilog and cocotb,and proposes ateaching plan basedonopen sourcetoolchains,systematicallyanalyzing theefectiveness oftherefom.Throughtheappicationofbasiccases,sequential logic cases,and simple CPU projects,the advantages of open source tools in reducing students' learning barriers, strengthening students'verificationawarenes,andpromotingthecultivationofstudents'interdisciplinaryabilitieshavebeen verified.Strategies for integrating opensource tools into teaching have alsobeensummarized,providingreference for the continuous optimization of digital system courses and the cultivation of students' engineering abilities.
