Research Progress and Prospects of Membrane Electrode Materials for Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers

Abstract:Theanion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE)technology is a promising hydrogen production technology.Ithasadvantagessuchasrapidresponse,lowcostandighefiencynotonlysolvingtheproblemsoforoion andslowresponseof hydro production byalkaline electrolysisof water,but alsoreducingthehighcostof proton exchange membrane electrolysis ofwater.Although AEMWEtechnology has made great progressinrecent years,thereisstillacertain distance before itcanbecommerciallyappliedonalarge scale.The main reason is that theresearchon thematerials forcore components such as anion exchange membranes and catalysts stillagsbehind that ofother electrolysis methods.This paper discusses the principleof AEMWE and the research and preparation methods of core components including anion exchange membranes,catalysts,polymers and membrane electrodes.It also proposes some feasible measures for the development of AEMWE from aspects such as developing high-performance membranes and catalyst materials,optimizing production processes and operating conditions,and commercialization of membrane electrode materials.
