Research on the copolymerization reaction process of cyanate ester and epoxy resin based on FTIR Tracking

Abstract:The copolymerization reaction process of the model substance phenyl dodecyl cyanate and phenyl glycid⁃ yl ether under medium and low temperature conditions was studied by FTIR tracking method,and the changes of the relative concentrations of each functional group over time were characterized by the internal standard method. The results show that under the condition of 100∘C without a catalyst,cyanate ester basically does not react with ep⁃ oxy resin,and the self-polymerization of cyanate ester is also very difficult to occur. Under the condition of 150°C , the copolymerization reaction process of cyanate ester and epoxy resin is divided into two routes. The first is the di⁃ rect copolymerization reaction between the cyanate ester functional group and the epoxy functional group,generat⁃ ing oxazoline and all rearranging into the first oxazolidone structure. The second is that after the cyanate ester self-polymerizes into a triazine structure,it undergoes an insertion copolymerization-rearrangement-ring-opening co⁃ polymerization reaction with epoxy resin,generating isocyanurate ester and the second oxazolidone structure. Dur⁃ ing this reaction process,regardless of whether a catalyst is involved or not,the reaction route will not change,and only the proportion of each component in the final product will be affected.
