Study on tensile bonding strength, fatigue resistance and durability of silicone structural sealant

Abstract:Silicone structural sealant is applied to the glass curtain wall plate of high-rise and super high-rise build⁃ ings,and the width of the glue seam of the larger plate exceeds the design requirements of JGJ102 specification. In the case of constant safety factor,it is necessary to consider the aging resistance and durability of silicone structural sealant to improve the maximum tensile strength and improve the design strength to reduce the feasibility of the ad⁃ hesive layer width scheme. In this paper,the durability of structural adhesives was verified by stress cycle fatigue test. Six kinds of silicone structural sealants with maximum tensile bonding strength and elongation at maximum ten⁃ sile bonding strength were selected for fatigue cycle test. The fatigue resistance of silicone structural sealants with different tensile bonding strength,different frequencies and different design strengths was studied. The research shows that the design strength is the key factor affecting the fatigue resistance of structural adhesive. There is no di⁃ rect correspondence between the maximum tensile bonding strength and the fatigue design strength. Increasing the maximum tensile bonding strength is not equivalent to increasing the design strength value. Frequency is not the main factor affecting fatigue life.
