Abstract：Underthebackgroundoftheconstructionof"First-rateUniversitiesandDisciplines"，thecultivationofinovative abilityof geologicalengineringgraduatestudentsshouldcoselymatchthenationaldevelopmentstrategyandindustrydemandIt aimstocultivateigh-levelprofessonalswithinterationalvisioninnovativespiritandexcellentpracticalabilityTaking GeologicalengineeringmajorofNorthChinaUniversityofWaterResourcesandElectricPowerasanexample，thispaper discusestheefectivemodeofconstructingandexploring thecultivationofgraduatestudents’innovativeabilityunderthe backgroundofdouble-first-classestablishment，startingfromfiveaspects：optimizingthecuiculumsystemandteachingcontent， reformingteachingmethodsandmeans，strengtheningtheconstructionofteachingstaff，improvingtheasessmentandevaluation mechanism，andpromotingexchangesandcooperation.Teresearchresultsnotonlyhaveguidingsignificanceforthecultivation ofinovationabilityofthegraduatestudentsofthegeologicalengineeringmajoroftheuniversity，butalsoprovidevaluable reference for the cultivation of innovation ability of engineering majors in other universities.
