Effect of Regular Static Stretching on Energy Expenditure and Autonomic Nerve Function in Obese College Students

WANG Hongqiang LIU Yutong Lanzhou University,Lanzhou,GansuProvince,73oooO China [Abstract] Objective: This study aims to systematically explore the intervention effects of regular static stretching on energy metabolism and autonomic nerve function in obese college students.Method: A randomized controlled experiment was conducted to divide 72 obese collge students into two groups: a stretching exercise group (SEG, n= 36)and ablank controlgroup (CG,n=36).The SEG received structured static stretching training for12 weeks,three times per week,4O minutespertime,while the CG maintained theiroriginal lifestyle.Beforeandaftertheintervention, the body composition,resting energy expenditure (REE),postprandial metabolicrate (PPMR),and heart rate variability (HRV) parameters including low-frequency power (LF),high-frequency power (HF),and LF/HFratio, were measured for all subjects.Results: Aftertheintervention,comparedwiththeCG,theSEGexhibitedasignificant decrease inbody fat percentage (PBF) (P<0.05) ,with no significant change in lean body mass (LBM); REE and PPMR were significantly increased (P<0.01) ; HRV analysis showed that the HF power of SEG significantly increased, while the LF/HF ratio

significantly decreased (P<0.01) . Conclusion: Regular static stretching can effectively improve body composition of obese college students,enhance resting and postprandial energy expenditure,and optimize autonomic nerve function in obese collge students,manifestedas increased parasympathetic activityand improved sympathetic-parasympathetic balance.This provides empirical evidencefor promoting stretching exerciseasasafeand feasiblestrategyforbody mas management and cardiovascular health promotion among obese populations in colleges.
