Analysis of the Application of Aluminum Power Cords for Automobiles

【Abstract】Traditional copper wires for automobiles,due to their high densityand high cost,have prompted he industry toseek alternativematerials toachievecost reductionand lightweight.Aluminum,with itsgood electrical conductivity,low densityand lowcost,has becomean ideal substitute forcopper,butitalsohas problemssuch as low strength andeasyoxidation.This article focuseson large-crosssectionalarea automotive powercordsanddelves deeply into the technical challenges that need to be adressed in replacing copper with aluminum,including issues such as electricalconductivity,strength,pressurecreep,oxidation,anddiferences in thermal expansioncoeficients.By analyzing the international automotive wire standards,a feasibility studyonreplacing copper with aluminum was conducted,and a specific technical solution was proposed:replacing copper wires with 1-series pure aluminum wires oflargercross-sectional area,following the principle of equivalent resistance;Two connection schemes for wires and terminalsareprovided:friction weldingand ultrasonic welding,and double-wall heat shrink tubing with adhesive is used for sealing.Thisarticle provides anew path with referencevalue for automotive enterprises to achievecostreduction and lightweighting.
