Abstract：The"brush"and"ink"havelongheldacentralroleinthetraditionalChinesepaintingsystem.However，the"waterand-powderimpact"technique，exemplifiedbyJuLian，disruptedthisparadigmtosomeextentbyshifting emphasisto"water" as a dominant medium，thereby expanding theexpressivedimensions of emotional representation in painting.Throughoutthe development and evolutionof the mogu painting style，water transcends its technical function as a mere physical medium， emergingas a key aesthetic element that contributes totheemotional and conceptual depth of the artwork.Focusing on the expressivefunctionof waterin mogu painting，this paper examinesthe"water-and-powder impact" technique practiced by the lateQing painterJuLian，arguingthat waterconstitutesanintegralaestheticelement withinthelyricalandexpresivesystemof this style.
