The Flow of Ritual Objects and Social Relations in the Qingshuijiang Auntie Dragon-Receiving Ceremony

Abstract:Fromananthropological perspective,giftexchange is notmerelythecirculationof material goodsbutaprocessofconstructingocialrelationsandculturalmeanings.ThisstudyexaminestheAuntieDragon-ReceivingCeremonyduringtheMiaoSingle logDragonBoatFestialinQianan’sQingshujiangasacasestudy.Troughfildworkandin-depthinterviews,itsystematicallexploresthegenderrolsandvilageculturalinteractionmechanismsunderlyinggftcirculation.Findingsrevealthatgiftexchangewit inthisritualservesthreefunctions.First,thesymbolictransmisionofgiftsreinforcesgenderroledivisionandidentitywithiiao society.econd,teilatioofifactsasvialondustaigishewokscossfilsandviles,aciliatingte productionofocialelas.ird,atthevelofluraltrasmsioiftcangebthperpeatesMiotadiioaltosad generatesnewformsofculturalexpresionwithinthemoderncontext.ThisstudynotonlydepensourunderstandingofMiaoritual culturebutalsoofersadistincttheoreticalperspectiveforexaminingtheinterplaybetweentraditionalgnderpracticesandodern cultural transformations.
