Abstract：Chaotian pepper is one of the pepper varieties with the largest planting area in Guizhou province.Studying the picking characteristicsof Chaotian pepper can providereferences for the designandresearchoftheend efectorof the picking robot for Chaotian pepper.The static friction coeficient，gripping characteristic analysis and radial extrusion test were carried out on the fruit with an average moisture content of 76.81% ，and the factors affecting the compressive ability of the fruit were analyzed.At the same time，the gripping load range of the fruit wasobtained，and theradial elastic modulusof the fruit was calculated.The shear and tensile testsof stalk of Chaotian pepper were carried out.The influence factorsof the peak shear force were analyzed，and the maximum peak shear force was obtained.The axial elastic modulus，Poison'sratioandradialshearmodulusofthestemwerecalculated.Theresultsshowedthatthehigher the compression rate was，the worse the compression resistance was.When the compression rate is less than 20mm/min the clamping force should be controlled in the range of 0.07-14.6N . The average radial elastic modulus of Chaotian pepper was 0.472MPa . The larger the stalk diameter，the larger the peak shear force （ （26.80N） ）．The mean values of axial elastic modulus，Poisson's ratio and radial shear modulus were 58.03MPa ，0.32，21.98 MPa，respectively.
