Analysis of the Causes of A Heavy Snowstorm in Jilin Province in Mid March 2018

Abstract Used relevant data such as automatic station observation data and NCEP reanalysis data to analyze the cause of a heavy snow storm that occurred in Jilin Province in mid March 2018. The results indicate that this weather process was mainly formed under the combined action of low-level shear and surface cold front, with the southwest warm and humid air flow climbing on the cold pad to produce snowfall. The shear line and the head of the jet stream are both located in Jilin Province, with continuous northward transport of southwest water vapor. In addition, there is a significant convergence of water vapor flux over the snowfall area, providing rich water vapor conditions for the occurrence of this blizzard. The main source of water vapor for this snowfall is the southwest warm and humid air flow. Snowy weather is formed with the movement of temperature fronts. The addition of the easterly jet and the intrusion of the lower layers of the northerly airflow provided dynamic conditions for the occurrence of this blizzard.
