A Unique Perspective on "Bie"

—The "Bie" Construction from a Cognitive Linguistics Viewpoint

Abstract：This paper explores theconstructional meaningand generative mechanismsof the"Bie"construction inmodern Chinesefrothepespectiveofognitivelingustics.Asafundamentalsructureexpressingnegativeimperatives，the"Bie"ontruction reflectsthspeakerscommunicativeintentiontopreventthelistenerfromperformingacertainactionThestudyrevealsthatthecore constructionalmeaningof"Bie"is"egativeimperative".hroughimageschemaanalysis，itcanbecategorizedintotwotyps：negationofreaitydgationofpresuppositoerdeesgngctios，emadngteirstio，ileleaes potentialactions，aiming topreventtheiroccurrence.Duringtheinteractionbetweentheconstructionandlexicalitems，the"Bie" constructionexertscoercivepressreontheverbs，adjectivesandounswitinitasigningtemthesmemeof"negativeiperative".Comparedwithafirmativeimperativeandnegativedclarativesentences，the"Bie"constructionexibitsuniquecogitivefeaturesintermsoffigure-groundrelationships.Thisresearchprovidescognitiverationalefortheacquisitionofthe"Bie"constructionin teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
