A Study on the Development of Woodcut Art in Guilin During the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

Abstract: During theChinesePeople'sWarofResistanceAgainst JapaneseAgresion,when materialresources were scarceand peopleendurdhardships,GuilinemergedaaculturalhubduetoitsuniquegeographicalpositionandpoliticalenvironmentStrategically,umerouswoodcutartistsconvergedhere,formingareativecollectiveenteredaroundthe"GuilinBranchoftheChinese National WoodutAsociationforResistance Against theEnemy".ThisstudyexaminesGuilin'swoodcutartduringthe WarofResistanceAgainstJapanseAggresionthoughistocalcodsandatokanalysis,acingitsdevelopentaltrajectoryetfis erafocusedonthemesof nationalsalvationthroughresistance,depicting people'ssufering,promotingthespritofresistance,and showcasingmilitary-civilianresistance.Formaly,itbrokefromtraditionbyblending Westernprintmakingtechniqueswithethnic artisticelements,reatingaonciseandimpacfulstylethatwasasytodseinate.Throughhaelslikenewspapers,ehbiios, andstreetposters,itcieveddeeppublicngagement,bcomingacrucialculturalweaponformobilizingthemaesandcosolidat ing forces of the War of Resistance.
