A Study on the Agricultural and Artisanal Life ofScholar-Official Recluses in the Wei and Jin Dynasties

Abstract：Chinaisatraditionalagriculturalcountryandtheideaof“agrcultureasthefoundation”hasbendeeplyrotedinthe heartsofeverygenerationofChinesepeople.EvenduringtheturbulenteraoftheWeiJinandNorteandSouthenDynastis，Cinese agriculturecontiuedtomakeprogressInfluencedbysocialunrestandtheprevalingtrendofNeo-Taoistthought（Xuanxue）alarge numberofsholar-offcialreclusesemergedduringthisperiod.Theysecudedthemselvesinthemountainsandcountryside，leadinga sipleadusterelifefluecdyraditioaliculturalideologies，tedforsbsistee，ndfdssfogiclureholar ofcialrecusesextensivelyengagedinfarmingandhandicraftproduction.Theyplowedfields，weeded，grewgrain，andbrewedwine， takingpleasueineprosofiatiospiteacthattsultsofluralfsefeasiil gainedinsightsandfulfilmentfromtheirfarminglives.Thoughtheiractions，theychalengedthtraditionalsocialperceptnsofthe scholar and farmer classes.
