Abstract:Inthecontextof national crisis，thecomprehensivepictorialunderNationalistgovermment，TheYoungCompanion,cut backonleisuecotentintroucdspcialssusoeWarofesstanceAgistJapaneseAresiodin4lowillf ShanghaireleasedheNewXikangSpecialIsueofTheYoungCompanionPictorial，whichpublishedphotostakenbythethogapic photographerZhuang Xueben.HedocumentedthelivesofethnicminoritiesinXikangfromanegaliarianperspective,andhisworksare characterizedbybothartisticvitalityandscientificrigor.Thespecialisueconstructsimagesofthe“simplicity”，“exoticism”，and “backwardness’ofteXikangborderresidentsthrough213photographs，whichnotonlymetthecognitivenedsofurbanreadersbutalso servethestrategyof“DevelpingtheNorthest”Tepublicationintegratespliticalpublicitywithculturaldisemination，showcasingthe achievementsinrovcesveloent.Itctstinteactioogdiaintelalsndoventdoid significant visual paradigms for Chinese anthropology.
