A Statistical Analysis of Role Models in Primary School Chinese Textbooks

Abstract:Rolemodels’advanceddeedsarecrucialforshaping primaryschol students’moralvalues.Asociologicalanalysis comparingthe1992O02and2016editionsofprimarysholChinesetextbksrevealsthfollwingimageevoutioncharacteristics:In naturalatributes,maleoleodelsaveconsistentlyominated,withmaleosgaduallyincreasing.Mostoleodelsareofungor midleage,andChineserolemodelshavealwaysbenintemajorityInsocialatributes,thefoushsshiftedfrom“ancientointed” to“equalemphasisonancientandmoder”,andsocialroleshavebecomemorediverseandbalanced.Invalueorientation,patriotism remainthecorevalue.Thefocushas movedfrompersonalcultivationtofamily-and-countrysentiment,whilebalancing“traditionalnd modernorientatios”Itcaneseenthatolemodels’naturalatributesinthetextbooksaredevelopingtowardbalance,socialrolesare focusing more on ordinary people, and diverse values highlight complete personality.
