Abstract:Maintaining appropriate temperature in biomassanaerobic digestion heated bysolarenergy is an economical and low-carbonmethod.However,therearerelativelyfewpilotstudiesonthestabilityof biomassanaerobicdigestionheated by solar energyincold winter regions.To addressthis,the biomassthermophilic wet anaerobic digestion system heated by solar energy was developed,consisting of a 3m3 tubular digester and a solar water heater(comprising 30Φ58 × 1 800mm all-glass evacuated tubes and a 250L storage water tank). This research detailedly investigated the start-up characteristics ofbiomassanaerobic digestion heated bysolar energy in winter,the temperature stability throughoutthe digestionprocess, and the processstability during continuous cloudy andsnowy weather.The results indicated that under poor sunlight conditions in December and an average ambient temperature of ,the solar water heater could maintain the biomass anaerobic digestion temperature at 26.0±1.0∘C after9 days of temperature increase. Even during three days ofcloudy and snowy weather,the system could maintain a stable operation at 26.0±1.0∘C .Over the 59-day digestion trial,the system consumed 86.3kW⋅h of power,produced 43.1m3 ofbiogas,and had a payback period of2years.The researches confirmthatthe solar waterheater can facilitatethesmooth start-upandstable operationof wet biomassanaerobic digestion,laying the groundwork for biomass anaerobic digestion treatment and utilization in cold regions.
