Study on Optimizing English Translation Strategies for Chinese University Mottoes under the "Three Closeness" Principle

Abstract:Asconcentrated expresionsofauniversitysethosandcorevalues,thequalityofEngishtranslationsofmotosholds significantimplicationsfortheconstructionofitsinternationalimage.TisstudyanalyzedtheChineseandEnglishmotoof Chineseuniverstis,evealingthattheseuiversitymotosareonciseyetprofound,richinonnotation,argelydrawnfromonfu cianclassics,mphasieoralultivatio,hilealsombodingbothtespiritoftetimesanddistinctieistitutionalaracteristics.Howeve,teuentEngishtanslatosstillfcecerainproblemssuchasdiminsdlngusticesthcappealiidfro Chinese,monolithicsentencestructures,andocasionaldeviationsfromtheoiginalintent.Guidedbythe"Thre Closeness"Principle,thestudyproposesoptimizedtranslationstrategiesfocusingonthreedimensions:fidelitytothemoto'soriginalmeaningalignmentwithforeignaudiences‘informationalneeds,andadaptationtotheirlingusticconventions.Theaiistoimproveteualityof moto translations,thereby enhancing the cultivation of a favorable international institutional image.
