Abstract： Stephen King'snovel The Shaushank Redemptionreflects thelonging for freedomamong people who becomedisconnectedfrommodernsocietyandlosetheirspiritualfoundationaftertrauma.UsingErichFromm'sideasonfreedomasatheoretical framework，thispaperexaminesthenaratorRedsprocessofself-ralizationtoanalzeStephenKing'sprspetiveofredominThe Shashank Redemption.ItexplorshowAmericansat thetimeredefinedtheirself-identityandthemeaningoftheirexistene.ByanalyzingthedualaspectsofpositiveandnegativefreedominRedsjoueyofescapingandfreinghimself，tisstudysugestsatonlythroughspontaneousloveandcreativeactivitiescanoneachieveliberationfromtheself toothersandsocietyreachastateofpositive freedom，and attain true redemption.
