Abstract: Stephen King'snovel The Shaushank Redemptionreflects thelonging for freedomamong people who becomedisconnectedfrommodernsocietyandlosetheirspiritualfoundationaftertrauma.UsingErichFromm'sideasonfreedomasatheoretical framework,thispaperexaminesthenaratorRedsprocessofself-ralizationtoanalzeStephenKing'sprspetiveofredominThe Shashank Redemption.ItexplorshowAmericansat thetimeredefinedtheirself-identityandthemeaningoftheirexistene.ByanalyzingthedualaspectsofpositiveandnegativefreedominRedsjoueyofescapingandfreinghimself,tisstudysugestsatonlythroughspontaneousloveandcreativeactivitiescanoneachieveliberationfromtheself toothersandsocietyreachastateofpositive freedom,and attain true redemption.
