Comparative Analysis and English Translations of“位点"and"基因座"//HE Ruiqing

Abstract：TheEnglishtranslationsof“位点（Site）”inacademicliteratureareveryconfusing，whichincludeboth“Site”and“Locus”，withtheformerbeingmorecommonthanthelatter.Accordingtotheprofessonaldictionariesof“TermOnline”，teEnglish translationof“位点”is“Site”，whiletheEnglishtranslationof“基因座”is“Locus”.Theauthor madeacomparative analysis of severaldefiitiosoftetwotersanddistingusedteirmeaningsofEnglishtranslatiosfroanetymologicalperspetive.Teuthorthinkthatthemainreasonsforthemistranslationof“位点"aretheintersectionandoverlapofdefinitionsofthetwoters;misleadingguidancefromtranslationsoftareonlineencylopedicvocabulary，etc;nonrigorousexpresionoftermsrelatedto“位点".To avoid mistranslationof“位点”，“位点（Site）”shouldbestrictlydistinguished from“基因座（Locus）”indefinitionand expresion. Only when“位点"is directly related to genetic changes，can itbe translated as“site”.
