Etymological Note on Character of Island Names in Dalian//LIU Ying，QI Wenyu

Abstract：TherearesomespecialcharactersintenamesofDalianislnds，suchasJiang.Afterinvestigation，Jiangcanbeusedas thecommonnameoftheislandforthreereasons：（1）Jianghasthemeaningofconvergence，andthelocationoftheislandisexactly wherethe watersconverge，soJiangisusedasthecommonname;（2）PeoplecallacertainseaareaJiang，andtheaeofteseare a isusedas thenameofthe islandinthesamearea;（3）ThecustomarypracticeofdirectlyusingJiangasthegeneric termarisefrom the omission of generic names such as Dao，Jiao and Shi.
