Selection of Naming Characteristics in the Translation of Terminology：Enlightenment from Evolution of the Chinese Term for“Helicopter"//WANG Kun

Abstract：Terminologtranslationrepresentsacross-lngusticrenamingofconcepts.Duringthisprocess，translatorsfacetheissueof selectingoptimalcharacteristics.Inappropriatechoicescanhinderthedisseminationandpopularzationofnowledge.Intisregard， theevolutionoftheChinesetermfor“helicopter”presentsacaseworthyofreflection.Byaplyingtheconceptualfeaturehierarchy theoryfromgeneraleminologystudies，ombinedwithhistoricalinvestigationandconceptualanalysis，tisstudyexaminsnd reflectsontheistoricalevolutinofteterminologyforelicopterinCinese.Itrevealsashiftinterminolognamingcharacteistcs frominherentfeatures toappliedfeatures.Thistransformationwasdrivenbythepragmaticoientationof terminologytranslationatthat time，aswellaseiulaonpthofterinologfrompopularowledgesace，rofessoalkowdgespacetsandarddkowedge space.Theresearch highlights theguidingvalueof terminologytheory interminologytranslationand standardization.
