Analysis of current development status and competitiveness of the watermelon and melon industry in Henan province

Abstract：This study analyzes the production statusof watermelon and melon in Henan province from 2O12 to 2023， focusing ontheplantingarea，totalyield，andyieldperunitarea.Italsoconductsacomprehensiveevaluationoftheindustrycompetitivenessof the watermelonand melon in Henan province bythe location entropy index，resource endowment coeficient，andcomprehensivecomparativeadvantage index.Theresults indicate that Henan province has consistently rankedfirst in Chinaboth the watermelon plantingarea andtotal yield，butthe planting area hasshownaslight downward trendinrecentyears.Theproductionscaleandtotalyieldofmelonhavedecreasedsignificantlybuttheyieldperunit areahasimproved significantly.Kaifeng，Zhoukou，Shangqiu，and Luoheexhibit higher specializationandresource endowmentadvantages inwatermelonproduction，whileAnyang，Luohe，Zhoukou，andKaifengshowsimilarstregthsin melon production.From2012 to2023，thecomprehensive comparative advantageof watermelonsteadilyincreased，demonstrating stable growth，whilethecomprehensivecomparativeadvantage of melon significantlydeclined.The study furtheranalyzes existing problems in thecurrent developmentof the watermelonand melon industry，and proposes countermeasures to promote high-quality development of the industry in Henan province.
