Study on the Lexical Core Meaning of “Bao（保）"//ZHENG Hongyue

Abstract：Thecoremeaningisthedominantcharacteristicmeaninginthedevelopmentofwordmeaning.Thisarticleanalyzsthatthe meaningof“bao”asexplainedinShuowen Jiezisnottheoriginalmeaningbutaderivedmeaning.Using themeaning-positionstructureanalysismethodandtecompoundwordasociationmethod，tecoremeaningof“bao”isdeterminedtobe“tostabilizepro tectfromharm".Basedonthis，thisarticleexaminestherelationshipbetweethevarious meaningsof“bao”anditscoremeaning，as wellastecoectionsbetweentese meanings，lustratig thedominantroleoftecore meaninginthederivationofordmeanings. Additionallitvealsevueofereeaningfromariousprspeties，cudingthoetiosetweeneanigs，ee velopmentallogicofderivedmeanings，andthereasons behindthediferences intheselectionof morphemes incompound words.
