Effects of drought on cadmium content in rice and soiland cadmium resistance-associated microorganisms

Abstract:Sampleswerecolectedfromtypicaldought-affectedfieldsinmid-altituderegions,ncludingrice(OryasatiaL.)plants andsoilsundermild,moderateandseveredroughtstressThecontentofcadmiuminsoilanddiffrentpartsofricewasdeteied, andthecommunitydiversityandcompositionofsoilcadmium-resistant microrganisms wereanalyzedbyIlumina MiSeq technique. Theresultsshowedthatecadmiumcontentinsoilwasintheincreasingorderofseveredrought,moderatedroughtandlightdrought, andthecadmiumcontentinachpartofriceshowedtheoppositetrend,butthediferenceswereallnotsignficant.Thesultsof high-throughputsequencingshowedthatthenumberofcadmiumresistance-asociatedmicroorganismswasthehighestundermoderatedrought,followedbymilddroughtandtheleastunderseveredrought.NMDSanalysisshowedthatdrought exposuresignificantly affected thestructureofcadmiumresistance-associatedmicrobialcommunities.Theanalysisofmicrobialcommunitiesshowedthat Proteobacteria,PlanctomycetesandActiobacteriawerethemainmicrobialphylainthethregroups,buttherelativeabundanceof eachphylawasdiferent.Underseveredrought,therelativeabundanceofPlanctomyceteswassignificantlyincreased,whilethelativeabundanceofProteobacteriadecreased.Atthegenuslevel,Gemmatawasthemostdominantmicrorganismacrossallhree drought-treatedgroups.Notably,itsabundanceinseveredroughtsoilwassignificantlyhigherthanthatinmildandmoderatedrought soils.Undermoderatedrought,theelativeabundaneofAzospirillmincreasedsignificantly,whereasundermilddought,theelativeabundancsofHaliangium,seudomonas,ndAloactinosynemasowedsignificantincreases.SeveredroughtincreasedtheCd contentofbrownriceandafectedthestructureandcompositionofcadmiumresistanceassociated microbialcommunities.Therefore, properwater management was expected toreduce the migrationofheavy metals insoilandrealizethesafeuseofcultivatedland.
