Effects of different concentrations of sulfur preparations on the growth of melon

Abstract:Powderymildew isoneofthe main diseases during the growthofmelon,and someofthe fungicides currently used inthefieldtocontrolpowderymildew containsulfur,whichis easy tocause drug damage whenused improperly.Melonresources M446andDM18 wereusedas the experimentalmaterials,diferentconcentrations ofsulfur preparations were sprayedto determine therelevant growth indicators.Analysisof variance,correlationanalysis,principalcomponentanalysis andmembership functionanalysis wereused toconductacomprehensive evaluationofdifferentconcentrations of sulfur preparations.The results showed thatthedegree of sulfurdamage of diferent sulfur formulations in melon materials M446and DM18 were basically the same.Compared to other treatments, 80% mancozeb and 0.5% potassium sulfate had a smaler inhibitory effectonthegrowth indicatorsof melon.Meanwhile,thesinglefruit massofthe two materials reached the maximumvalue atD3 treatment(6oo times diluted 80% mancozeb),which were 1.36kg and 1.93kg respectively.However,therateofdiseased leaves and thesulfurdamage index showedanupward trend withthe increaseofsulfurpreparation concentration.Under the treatments ofD3 and E3(150 times diluted 0.5% potassium sulfate),the diseased leaf rate and sulfur damage index were 56.08% 23.43% and 11.37% 3.82% ,respectively,which were significantlylower than those treated with 80% sulfur suspension agent and 29% lime sulfur solution.The results of principal component analysis indicated that 80% mancozeb and 0.5% potassium sulfate ranked relatively high in the sulfur preparation treatment. In conclusion, applying 80% mancozeb and 0.5% potassium sulfate in the prevention and control of powdery mildewonmelon is arelativelysafe measure.Theresearch results provideatheoretical basis for the scientificapplicationof sulfurpreparations in the cultivation and management of melon.
