Abstract：Chayote（Sechiumedule）hasbecomearichcucurbits tohelpruralrevitalizationnow，However，theintroductionandresearchofchayote startedlatein China，andsomeresearch fieldsarealmostblankatpresent，which seriouslyaffects the sustainable developmentofchayote.Therefore，the origin，germplasmresources and variety breeding ofchayote; basicresearchongrowthanddevelopment，physiologicalactive substances，invitro reproductionandgenes; theapplicationresearchof storage，preservation and procesing and soon were summarized.Inviewof the keyproblems in the current basic andappliedresearchofchayote，theauthors proposed the main directionoffuture research，which is the combinationof invitromutagenesis breeding，molecularbiotechnologyandtraditional breedingwillproductbreednewvarieties，basicresearchon fruit morphogenesis，seed viviparyandactive substances metabolism mechanism，appliedresearch onthe developmentoffunctional foodanddeepprocessing.Itis expected tolaythe foundation forfurtherresearch on the new variety breeding，physiological and molecular basicresearch，functional health product development anddeepprocessing application of chayote，and finally promote the healthyand sustainable development of chayote.
