Effects of drought stress on the growth and physiological characteristicsof Acacia mangium seedlings

AbstractTo investigate the tolerance ofAcacia mangium todroughtstress,a potdrought experiment was conducted. The growth indicators (plant height),antioxidant enzymes [superoxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT),peroxidase (POD), malondialdehyde (MDA)content,smotic regulatory substances [proline (Pro),soluble sugar(SS),solubleprotein (SP)l, photosynthetic parameters [photosynthetic rate (Pn),transpiration rate (Tr), intercellular CO concentration (Ci), stomatal conductance(Gs)l,and chlorophyllcontentof cacia mangiumseedlings underdiferentdegrees ofwaterstress (droughtstressfor7,14,21,and28days)were measured.Correlationanalysisand principalcomponentanalysis wereused toanalyze themain influencing factorsofitsdroughtresistance.Theresultsshowedthatasthedegreeofdroughtstress increased,theincreaseinplantheightofAcacimangiumgradualldecreased,whilethectivitiesofSOD,thecotentsof MDA,SS,Ci and chlorophyllallshowed a trendoffirstdecreasingand then increasing.The activitiesof PODand photosyntheticparameterindicators (except Ci)allshowedadecreasingtrend,whilethecontentsofPro,SSandSPall showedanincreasing trend.Corelationand principalcomponentanalysis indicatedthatPro,chlorophyllb(Chlb)and SP could beusedasthe mainindicators forevaluatingthedroughtresistanceofAcacia mangium,whileSODand plantheight could be usedasauxiliary indicators.Inconclusion,moderatedroughtcanpromote theaccumulationofosmoticadjustment substances and the enhancement of antioxidant enzyme activity in Acacia mangium.
