Effects of rotation systems on physical and chemical properties of soil in continuous Zizania latifolia cultivation

AbstractTo explore the remediation effcts of rotation systems on thedegraded soil inthe cultivated layer of Zizanialatifolia,3rotationsystems of Zzanialatifolia-maize,Zizania latifolia-rice,and Zizania latifolia-taro wereset up.The aim was to studythe impacts of these3rotation systems onsoil structure,soil nutrients,and other physical and chemical properties of the cultivated layer after long-term planting of Zizania latifolia.Theresults showed that compared with continuous Zizania latifoliacultivation,therotation systems of Zizania latifolia-maizeand Zizania latifolia-taro could remarkably increase( P <0.05)the soil porosity and raise the proportion of water-stable aggregates ( ⩾ (20 2 mm)in the soil. Under the 2 rotation systems,the proportion of water-stable macropores ( ⩾2 mm) increased by 7.68% (2号 and 9.00% respectively,and the effective soil pores increased by 28.23% and 21.19% respectively. The rotation systems of Zizania latifolia-maizeand Zizania latifolia-taro could significantly increase the soil pH value( P <0.05). After the rotation, the soil pH value increased to a range of 5.79-5.82.The rotation systems of Zizania latifolia-rice, Zizania latifolia-maize,andZizania latifolia-tarocould significantlyreduce thecontents of soilorganic mater,available nitrogen, available phosphorus,and available potassium P<0.05 ).All these indicators were maintained within a relativelyreasonablerange,thusreducing therisk of environmental pollution.Interms of economic benefits,among the threerotationsystems,the Zizania latifolia-corn rotationshowed the best total benefit,reaching 17786.5yuan/667 m2. Inconclusion,thethreerotationsystems inthis studycanimprovethephysicalandchemicalpropertiesofdegradedsoil. In terms of economic benefits,the rotation system of Zizania latifolia-maize performs the best.
