Adaptabilityevaluation and screening of14 Cucurbita maxima varieties in areas along the Yangtze River of Jiangsu province

Abstract:Toscreenouthigh-qualityCucurbitamaximavarietiessuitableforcultivationinareasalongtheYangtzeRiver of Jiangsu province, 14C maxima varieties were tested under the vertical trellising cultivation.By measuring the traits of thesevarietiesandapplying methods suchassignificance diferenceanalysisand principalcomponentanalysis,acomprehensiveevaluation and selectionof diferent varieties were conducted.Theresults showed that Beibeilu1has anearly floweringperiod,strongdiseaseresistance,goodtaste,andhighertotalsugarandvitaminCcontent;Huiguiang/Ruifu has the highest total sugar content( 12.89%% ; Zhuyan has the highest reducing sugar content 6.70% ; and Baijingua/Libai hasthe highest yield per plant( (1.69kg) .Thecomprehensive evaluation found that among small-fruited types,Beibeilu1 and Swetpuddingrankedfirstandsecond,espectivelywhileamong medium-fruitedtypes,Baijingua/Libai,Huiguiang/Ruifu,Zhuyan,andJiaoyangrankedinthetopfour.Duetoitspoortasteandlowmarketaceptance,Baijingua/Libai and Huiguniang/Ruifuislessrecommended.Incontrast,Beibeilu1,Sweet pudding,Jiaoyang,and Zhuyanare mostsuitable asthe main promoted varieties for the areas along the Yangtze River of Jiangsu province.
