Abstract:Demonstrate significant heavymetal contamination risks predominantly fromatmospheric sedimentation, agro chemicalapplications, and industrialpolution, etc.Comparedwithothervegetabletaxa, leafyegetables haveasigificantlyelevatedbio-accumulationofheavymetals.Itiscrucial forreducing suchcontaminationriskstoelucidating theabsorption, accumulation, and enrichment paterns of heavy metals in leafy vegetables, coupled with developing targeted phytoremediationstrategies againstcontamination.Whileextensiveresearch has beenconductedacrossglobalagricultural systemsonpoint-source heavy metalcontamination inleafyvegetables, investigations into non-point sourcepolution mechanisms and associated human health risk assessments remain significantly understudied.Acomprehensive review andanalysisoftheliteratureonheavy metalpolutioninmajorvegetablesandleafyvegetables, both domesticand internationalwasconducted.Theheavymetalpolution situationsof diferentvegetable types werecompared. It wasrevealed thatleafyvegetables weresubject tothemost severe heavy metalpollution, and there were marked inter-species divergence inheavy metal polltion among diferent kindsofleafyvegetables. To address heavy metalcontamination in leafy vegetables,strategiccultivationinlow-contamination farmlands isadvised.Research should prioritize elucidatingcontamination dynamics inopen-field versus facility-grown systems, whileconcurrentlyselecting low-accumulation cultivars andimplementing tailored agronomic practices. This integratedapproach efectivelyreduces contaminantlevels andestablishes a scientific framework for risk mitigation.
