Abstract:Englishasalingua franca (ELF)playsavitalroleininternationalcommunicationintheupsurgeof globalization.With theincreasingumberofnon-nativeEnglishspeakersaccenthasbecoeneoftekeyfactorsafectingcrossculuralcomunicationandidividuallanguageidentityecentlysholarshavegaduallpadatentontoteoleofdiferentaccntsinELou nicationandteirinfluenceontheidentityfnon-nativeEnglishspeakers.Basedontheanalysisofiveempiricalstudies,itisre vealedthataccntnotonlyfectstheommuncationefctofindividualsinaultligualenvionent,utaosapstirder standingandidenticationofself-identity.ItsuggeststatChinesecollegestudentsgaduallyacceptthediversityofEnghacets incrossculturalcommunicationhepuposeoftispapristoprovideanewperspectiveandthoreticalsupportforcossultural communication and ELF research,and also to provide reference for the research in related fields.
