Analysis of Airworthiness Approval and Operational Benefits of Civil AircraftVisionSystems

Abstract: [Purposes] This study focuses on civil aircraft airborne vision systems—including Head-Up Display (HUD),Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), Enhanced Flight Vision Systems (EFVS), and Synthetic Vision Systems (SVS)—which are key technologies for new-generation air transportation systems. It aims to provide references for the development of domestic civil aircraft vision system products, thereby enhancing aircraft operational capabilityand flight safety under low-visibility conditions.[Methods] The current status of civil aircraft vision systems was reviewed.Based on an examination of the applicable airworthiness regulations,the current situation regarding their airworthiness approval was analyzed.Through analysis of operational benefits and challnges,the operational advantages as well as the problems and risks associated with each type of vision system were identified.[Findings]The Head-Up Display System ofers operational advantages such as lowering landing minimums requirements,the Synthetic Vision System enhances pilot situational awareness,and the Enhanced Flight Vision System can reduce approach weather minimum requirements.However,there are risks,including high maintenance requirements for the Head-Up Display System,more display deviations of the Synthetic Vision System when close to the ground,incomplete operational procedures and limitations in detection performance for the enhanced flight vision system.[Conclusions] Countermeasures and suggestions are proposed to address the operational challenges.These provide guiding significance for the development and airworthiness approval of vision systems for domestic civil aircraft.
