Gong Yan Bao： The Transformation and Challenges from Elite Political Mouthpiece to Mass Media

Abstract：Duringthe“Sino-AmericanIndustrialLoanLeak Incident”inNovember1916，GongYanBaoplayedtheroleofatreaty leaker，promptingteBeianggoveenttolaunchninvestgationandspakingspeculatiosaboutteidentiyofteleakeracosoi ty.Becausethenewspaper'ssponsorwas XuShuzheng，awarlordof theAnhuiclique，GongYanBaowasoftenregardedasthemouth piecef teAnfuclique.However，itseditorinchief，LinBaishuitrivedtofindabalancebetwnapartynewspaperandpoeion aljouralist.ThiscontradictioninidentitystemmedfromtheperationaldifcultiesthatGongYanBaofced，whichwerealsocomon challenges fotejoualiminustrinBeiingattatti.GongYanBowiththaracteritisofnfaoanewspacote rie paper，and a public opinion，became aunique marker in the transformation stage of publicopinion in modem China.
