Abstract: This paper introducesa trip accident caused byan internal insulator breakdown failure in a 500kV GIS.Based onthercording of the tripswitch,theactionreportofthe fielddevice,the humidityandcompositionanalysis of SF gas in the GIS,andtheinsulationresistancemeasurement,thelocationofthefailedgaschamberwasdetermined.Theinternalbreakdown failureoftheinsulatorinthegaschamberwasanalyzedthroughdisassembly,andthecauseofthefailurewasdiscussdand analyzed.AhandovertestwascarredoutontheGISafterthereplacementofanewinsulator,andcorespondingsuggestions were put forward for subsequent GIS operation and maintenance and fault handling.
