Abstract：Thispaper takesthe exhaustgas turbochargerastheresearch object，mainlytaking theCummins NTA855diesel engineusedinacertaintypeofcraftasanexample，introducesthestructureandworking principleoftheexhaustgas turbocharger.Combinedwiththefaulttreediagrammechanism，thetypicalfaultsthatoccrduringitsworkingprocessare analyzed，andissesrelatedtousemanagementandmaintenancearediscussdbasedoncases，inordertoimprovetheuse efficiency of ship diesel engines.
