Abstract: [Purposes] To address the technical challenges of traditional 500kV line fault location methods,such as insuficient accuracy and high sensitivity to transition resistance,and to improve fault location accuracy and response speed. [Methods] PMU synchronous phasor measurement technology was adopted to obtain high-precision phasor data from both ends of the line through GPS clock synchronization. A fusion location algorithm combining traveling wave propagation theory and impedance calculation was designed,and the algorithm performance was verified through PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. [Findings] The simulation results show that the fusion algorithm controls errors within 0.68% ,with a response time of 11 ms,achieving a 35% accuracy improvement over traditional methods while demonstrating robust performance across various fault types.[Conclusions] This method effectively mitigates issues such as transition resistance effects and line parameter inaccuracies,achievesmillisecond-level fault location, and provides technical support for rapid grid fault recovery and smart grid development.
