Effects of fermented Astragalus membranaceus on lactation performance, energy metabolism andrumen fermentation performance of dairy cows

AbstractTo investigate the efects of fermented Astragalus membranaceus on lactation performance,energy metabolism,and rumen fermentation performance in dairy cows,8O Holstein cows were randomly divided into 4 groups. Theywere fedabasal dietsupplemented with differentlevels offermented Astragalus membranaceus: control group(O), test group A (10 g/head),test group B (20 g/head),and test group C (30 g/head). After 3O days of the experiment, indicesincluding lactation performance (suchasaveragedaily feed intakeand milk fat percentage),energy metabolism levels (uch assuccinate dehydrogenase and malate dehydrogenase),andvolatile fatty acid contents were determined. The results showed that in terms of lactation performance,compared with the control group,the average daily feed intake,average daily milk yield,and milk fat percentageof cows in alltest groups significantly increased ( P
