Breeding process and cultivation techniques of potato variety Mengwushu No.2

AbstractThe breeding process,varietal characteristics,and key cultivation techniques of potato variety Mengwushu No.2 were summarized.This variety was developed asa potato cultivar through sexual hybridization,using Jizhangshu No.8 as the female parentand XisenNo.6 as the male parent,folowedbyselection and identification.It was registeredasanon-staplecrop varietybythe MinistryofAgricultureand RuralAffirsin2O24,withtheregistration number GPD potato (2024)15O114.In terms of varietalcharacteristics,Mengwushu No.2 was a late-maturing variety with a growth period of approximately 11O days; and the average yield in regional experiment was 42186.08kg/hm2 . The tubers Were oval-shaped with yellow skinanddeep yelow flesh,medium-depth eyes,and slightly rough skin.The dry matter content was 18.2% , starch content 10.6% ,and reducing sugar content 0.27% . It exhibited moderate resistance to Potato virus X (PVX)and Potato virus Y(PVY).Keycultivationtechniques included selecting sandy loam fields with good isolationconditions,and standardizing seed cutting and disinfection.Timely sowingand rational dense planting were recommended.For field management,sufficient base fertilizer should be applied during land preparation,with supplemental phosphorus,potassium,and micronutrients during themid-to-late growth stages.Timelyintertillageand earthing-up help control weedsand conservesoil moisture.Soil moisture should be maintained during the tuber bulking stage,and key pestsanddiseases,such as late blight,should be monitoredand controlled.Vine kiling should be performed1O-15 days before harvest,and tubersshouldbe harvested atthe appropriate time after skin suberization. This study provides a reference for the promotion and cultivation of this variety.
