Effects of straw substrate block seedling raising methods on the quality of rice seedlings and transplanting quality

AbstractIn this study，straw substrate blocks were used as seedling raising materials to comparatively analyze the effcts of 3 sedling raising methods，namely，self-propelled seedling trayseeders without hard disks （treatments A）， self-propelld seedling tray seeders with hard disks （treatments B），and rice seedling raising assembly line sowing， tray stackingand darkening followedbytrayplacement （treatmentsC），onriceseedling successrate，uniformityof emergence，seedlingquality，transplanting qualityandseedling raising cost.Theresultsshowed that in termsof seedling growthrateanduniformityof emergence，theseedling growth ratesof the3 treatments were allrelativelyhigh， ranging from 84.8% to 85.3% . The coefficient of variation of seedling height in treatment A and treatmentB increased by 3.88 and 3.19 percentage points respectivelycompared with treatment C.In terms of seedling quality，treatment C hadbeter leafage，plantheight，stembase widthandthe weightofdrymaterper1OOplants ontheground than other treatments，whiletreatment A had the highest numberofrootsand binding force.There was no significant difference in root strength among the three treatments.In terms of transplanting quality，the mised holerate of treatment C was lower than thatof treatmentA，andthe stabilityofthe numberof plants perholein treatments Band C was higher.In terms of seedling raising costs，treatment A had the lowest cost （3.97 yuan per tray）， which was 15.0% lower than treatmentB（4.67 yuan per tray）and 16.9% lowerthan treatment C （4.78 yuan per tray），respectively.In conclusion， the darkening treatment of stacked trays can improve thequalityof riceseedlings andthequalityof transplanting，however， itscostofraising seedlingsisalsothehighest.Although thecostof transplantingseedlings without hard disks is low andthe binding force is strong，theflatness of theedgesof theseedling blocksneeds to beoptimized to improve the transplanting quality.
