Abstract:Asoneof theglobalvarietiesofEnglish,African Englishexhibitsdistinctiveexpresionstrategies ineverydaydiscourse,eflectingidentityconstructionandculturalinteractionincross-culturalcommunication.BasedontheNigeriansortstory colectionTheThingAroundYourNeck,conversationalfragmentsrevolvingaroundAfricancurlyhairareexaminedtoexplorelexical choices,rhetorcaldeviesandommunicativefunctionsincosulturalcontexts.Corpusanalyssanddiscouseanalysisreobined tooutlinethenamingsystem,descriptiveexpresions,andcommunicativestrategiesrelatedtohair.Thefindingsrevealhow AfricanEglishlacsuuralselexpressonitosslualitelibitydoptinglexialoeoarallece structures,andAfrican-spefcmetaphors.Thediscursivespaceconstructedbetweenexteralgzesandculturalself-represetation highlights the agency of the Global South in linguistic dissemination.
