Abstract:Fish-scale spring and crown spring are two commonly used contact structures in electrical connectors. This paper compares fish-scale spring and crown spring contact to study their respective applications. Appropriate positive pressure (ensuring the stability of contact resistance) and current carrying capacity are essential to ensuring the stable operation of the electrical connector. The calculation of positive pressure and current carying capacity has been done using electrical connectors of the same material and specification. The theoretical calculations show that the electrical connector with a crown spring as a contact has a higher positive pressure and a larger current carrying capacity. This paper conducts further testing according to the standard GB/T 5095.5—1997,using electrical connectors with the same material and specifications.Test results indicate that the crown spring as a contact exhibits a higher insertion force,a higher current carrying capacity, and a lower contact resistance. Theoretical analysis and test results indicate that the electrical connector featuring a crown spring as a contact has a higher safety margin in current carrying, superior current carrying capacity, and higher reliability and stability.
