An Analysis of Poaching Crimes in Victorian Britain

Abstract：Poachingconsitutedasignificantproportionofsocialcrimes inVictorian Britai.However，perceptions ofpoachers’image oftensparkeddebate.Someviewedpoachersas“heroes”and“pitiableindividuals”，notconsideringthemasthecriminallowerclasses. OthersregardedpoachersascriminalswhoseactionsbroughtvioleneandharmtosocietyPoacherscanbecategorizedintofourmain types：profesioalpoachrs，pporunisticpoachers temprarilyunemplod，ecreatioalpoachers，andpoachinggangs.Inpoacingac tivitieswomenpadanmpoantole，tycallolboatingitaleoachstoughdivisionoflaboandingsposleforte transportationanddistributionofgame.Variousfactorsifluencedpoaching，incudingpoverty，marketsupplyanddemand，andedevelopment of working-class culture.
