Abstract：Comparativesentencesareacategory structures that haveatracted muchatention.This paper investigates such structuresbasedontheblingualtextHaryPoterandthePhilosopher'sStone，bycoletingandanalyzingcomparativesentences thatfeaturetheEngishword"than"andtheircorespondingChinesetranslations.Comparativesentencesaredividedintourcategories：atributeomparison，manneromparisonquntitycomparsonndintensityomparison，andtheirbstractsyacticfoats aresummarizedrespectively.TheanalysisrevealsthatEnglishtends tomodifythemiddlepartthecomparativestructurewhereas Chinese typicallytransforsthesntence-fialportionBasedonthisstructuraldiference，thispaperattmptstoexpaintheabove findingsfromtheperspectivecognitivelinguistics.InviewthestandardizationlanguageuseintheChineseandEnglishversions HaryPoterandthehilosopher'sStone，thispaperattmptstogainaglimpsethegrammaticaldiffrencesbetwenChinese and English comparative sentences based on corpus analysis.
