Comparative Study of Competitiveness Between Zhengzhou and Other National Central Cities in China

Abstract: [Purposes] The report to the 2Oth CPC National Congress proposed to promote coordinated regional development,with the national central cities serve as an important starting point to promote the coordinated development of regions.This paper conducts a comparative study on the competitiveness between Zhengzhou and other national central cities,which can provide policy insights for Zhengzhou to strengthen its position asanational central city.[Methods] First of all,based on new development philosophy,the evaluation index system for assessing national central city competitiveness is constructed across six dimensions,including cultural and technological innovation competitiveness,economic agglomeration competitiveness,spatial influence competitiveness,ecological environmental protection competitiveness，openness up competitiveness and social service competitiveness.Second，the entropy method is employed to measure the competitivenesslevel of the nine national central cities in China and make a comprehensive analysis.[Findings] Overall, Zhengzhou's competitiveness as a national central cityranks lowest with its performance falling into the low competitiveness tier and showing a significant gap from the high tier Among China's nine national central cities,Zhengzhou's performance ranks lowest across all six competitiveness dimensions.[Conclusions] Zhengzhou needs to capitalize on its own unique advantages to enhance its competitiveness as a national central city,by focusing on six dimensions:cultural and technological innovation competitiveness,economic agglomeration competitiveness, spatial influence competitiveness,ecological environmental protection competitiveness,openness competitiveness and social service competitiveness.
