Investigation and Analysis of Educators’Teaching Competencies in Standardized Residency Training from the Perspective of Andragogy

Abstract: Objective To explore the wilingness of educators in the standardized residency training to participate in teaching competency training and its influencing factors from the perspective of andragogy, providing a reference for optimizing the design of teaching competence training for educators.Methods A total of 523 educators from 46 training bases across Sichuan Province according to a triennial training plan, who participated in the teaching competence training for the standardized residency training program in 2023, were selected.A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data on their wilingness to participate n training,self-assssment of teaching competencies,and other relevant indicators. The Firth penalized regression model was applied to analyze the influencing factors of training willingness.Results The following factors influenced the willingness of clinical educators to participate in teaching competence training:afiliation with a university-affiliated hospital or not (OR :=2.897 , 95% CI:O.294—1. 948), the self-assessment of teaching competencies (OR =1 .193, 95%CI:0.110-0.249) ,and their intended daily training hours (OR 1.828, 95% CI:O.371-O.847). Conclusion Teaching competence training for educators in the standardized residency training should be designed by considering the factors including the type of institutions that the educators’hospitals are afiliated with,their current teaching competencies,and their expectations regarding training duration. A wel-designed,categorized,and tiered training strategy should be developed to stimulate theclinical educators’wilingness to participate in and effectively promote the enhancement of their teaching competencies.
