AbstractIn order to comprehensively understand thedistributionand preservation status of ancient and famous tres outsidethebuilt-upareaof Haikou City，Hainan Province.Thequantityofeach grade，thedistributionoffamilies and genera，the growth vigor andthe newlyadded quantityof ancientand famous trees in thisarea were mainly investigatedandanalyzed，andreasonable protection measures were formulated.Theinvestigation showed thatthere were atotalof1254 living ancienttres of28 species belonging to24 generaand19families inthis area，among which 220 were inXiuying District，238 inLonghuaDistrict，596in Qiongshan Districtand2OOinMeilanDistrict.There were2 first-class ancient trees，24 second-classancient treesand1 228 third-class ancient trees，mainly from the Moraceae family.Most ancient and famous trees were growing normaly，，with luxuriant branchesand leavesand were wellpreserved.Among them，Xiuying District hasbuiltatotalof 22Oancientand famous tres of9 species belonging to8 genera and 5families outside the district，mainly from the Moraceae family.There are2 second-classancient trees and 218 third-classancient trees.Dongshan Town hadthelargest numberofsurviving ancient trees，with109，whileYongxing Town has thefewest，with 48.3endangered ancient trees and 26 new ancient trees have been added.The ancient and famous trees inthe studyarea may have been disturbed byurban development and human activities.Protective measures such as straightening the trees，repairing tree holes，manuallyremoving unreasonable treepitsaround theancient trees， strengthening protectionand management，and improving the site environment should be taken to protect their ecological functions and biodiversityvalue.This articleprovidesareference forthe sustainable protectionand utilizationof ancient

and famous trees.
