Effects of Ca2+ on the germination of radish seeds and the growth of seedlingsunder salt stress

AbstractUsing theselected Zheda long radish as the experimental material and water treatment as the control (CK), the germination potential,germination rate,germination index, vitality index of seeds under NaCl stress and CaCl2 (204 treatment (BO-B4were0,5,10,20and40mmol/Lrespectively),theradiclelength,hypocotyllength,freshweightand MDA content of seedlings were determined to study the effects of different concentrations of CaCl2 treatment on the germination of radish seeds and the growth of seedlings under salt stress.The results showed that NaCl treatment had a significant inhibitory ffect on the germination of radish seeds and the growth of seedlings. CaCl2 treatment can significantly alleviate the salt stresseffect during the germination of radish seeds andthe growth of seedlings.Within a certainrange,thealeviating effectisdirectlyproportionaltoitsconcentration.Thegerminationpotential,germination rateand vitality index of radish seeds treated with B2 were increased by28,29 percentage points and 182.1% respectivelycomparedwith treatmentBO.The lengthoftheembryo rootandthefresh weightof thehypocotylincreased by 94.5% and 19.0% respectively compared with treatment BO,and the content of MDA decreased by 20.9% compared with treatment BO.The hypocotyl length and germination index of treatment B1 increased by 4.8% and 60.4% (2号 respectivelycomparedwith thoseof treatmentBO.The fresh weightoftheembryo roots intreatment B3 wasthehighest, which was 36.0% higher than that in treatment Bo.In conclusion,the treatment with 5-2O mmol/L CaC 2 has a relatively obvious salt stressrelief efect on the vitality index ofradish seeds andthe radicle growth of seedlings,andalso has a certainrelief efectongermination potential,germinationrateandgermination index,buthasnoobviousreliefeffecton thehypocotyllength.Thisarticle providesareferencefortheintroduction,developmentofnewradish varietiesandthe research on corresponding cultivation techniques.
